WHAT ARE THE BASICS FOR QUALIFYING
FOR SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY

Who is eligible for to pursue Social Security Disability?  To qualify, the person must have sufficient employment in the United States, have a medical condition that meets Social Securities definition of disability and be disabled for at least one year.

The person can complete an application online, through telephone assistance or at a local Social Security office.  Once they qualify for Social Security Benefits, those benefits will continue as long as you are disabled (with periodic reviews) up until the person reaches the age of retirement.  If the person’s condition improves, Social Security will assist in the person’s transition back to full employment.
